Top-loading closed cycle cryostat, ISISstat, was developed through a collaborative project between ISIS, UK and Oxford Instruments and has been optimised for neutron scattering experiments:
Provides a sample environment in the temperature range 1.5 K - 300 K without the need for liquid cryogen
Low temperature capability can be extended below 1 K: the high cooling power (0.23 W at less than 2 K) achieved at the cryostat's variable temperature insert heat exchanger means it can be fitted with a standard dilution refrigerator (KelvinoxVT) or 3He evaporation(HelioxVT) inserts
Low noise and vibration: the cryostat uses a Pulse Tube Refrigerator (PTR) which has no moving parts and ensures minimum vibration and low maintenance
Optimised design: the cryostat uses a proprietary Oxford Instruments design of heat exchanger on the first stage of the PTR optimising thermal contact with the circulating gas. It also uses a heat exchanger developed by ISIS on the second stage of the PTR which provides with greater efficiency at high flow rates which is ideal for beam line operation
Designed for neutron scattering experiments: uses a VTI with no liquid helium in the sample horizontal plane
Fast sample change: the time required for sample change starting from base temperature back to base temperature is less than 2 hours
